KAMPAR: Various departments including local residents participated in the programme ‘Preserve Our Rivers, Green Our Landscape’ in Kuala Dipang recently.

Chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the programme organised by the Kampar District Council was carried out in conjunction with the celebration of World Earth Day 2024.

“This programme successfully brought together various government departments, universities and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

“In addition, strategic partners and local communities also participated in cleaning up the river environment from wastes, especially plastics,” she said in a statement on her Facebook.

Sandrea said, besides that, the programme also succeeded in planting 250 young ginger flower trees to strengthen the river banks.

“The theme of World Earth Day 2024, ‘Planet vs Plastic,’ once again serves as a reminder to all of us to reduce single-use plastic consumption and increase recycling rates.

“Congratulations also to students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) and Universiti Teknologi Petronas for contributing their efforts,” she said.

She added that they hope collaborative programmes can be expanded in the future.
