Senior Citizens Club of Perak Celebrates World Senior Citizens Day

by KT Leong

The Senior Citizen’s Club of Perak held a celebratory gathering at their clubhouse in conjunction with World Senior Citizens Day, which is held on 21 August each year.

The celebration took place for the first time in 1991. The day is intended to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as health deterioration and elder abuse.

But this gathering was more in the spirit of enjoying life and vigor, as the band of Merry Makers, featuring Nicholas Ngeow  n Tommy Yap, performed songs for the attendees. Saxophonist Tan King Hing also lent his talents to the merriment.

Following club president Richard Tan’s welcoming speech, the participants enjoyed themselves with refreshments, karaoke and dancing, such as ballroom and line dancing.

With 47 years of history, joining the club is an excellent opportunity for senior citizens to find an active social and support group. Those interested can contact Caroline Teoh at 016-5424460
