Premises Selling Fake Printer Cartridges Raided, 493 Units Seized

IPOH: A business premises in Pasir Puteh here was raided after selling suspected counterfeit cartridges of a well-known brand through an e-commerce platform on Thursday.

According to Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, who said a man who is the company’s manager was also detained to assist with the investigation.

He stated that KPDN also seized 493 units of branded printer cartridges suspected of using counterfeit trademarks and various documents.

Additionally, the value of the seized items is estimated at RM4,667.

“The operation was carried out by KPDN Perak officers along with a representative from the trademark owner at around 11:30 AM.

“The raid followed a complaint by the trademark owner’s representative regarding the sale of suspected counterfeit cartridges of a well-known brand at the premises.

“The trademark owner’s representative conducted an initial verification of the goods, and it is suspected that the premises have committed an offense under the Trade Marks Act 2019.

“Possessing, keeping, or controlling goods for trading or manufacturing purposes with a registered trademark that is incorrectly applied is suspected to be an offense under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trade Marks Act 2019,” he said here today.

He emphasized that KPDN takes such cases seriously to protect trademark owners’ rights.

He also advised the public to be cautious of certain traders who attempt to make easy profits by selling counterfeit goods.
