Hiker lost on mountain found safe

SUNGAI SIPUT: A man who was believed to be to be lost while participating in a hike at Mount Yong Yap yesterday was found safe in a rubber plantation near Kuala Mu here today.

Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), said the victim, Ilhami Mohd Idris, 22, was found by the public at 10 AM.

He stated that the victim went missing during the hike with 15 other participants on Sunday.

“The Sungai Siput Police Station received information regarding an incident where a hiker went missing while the group was hiking Mount Yong Yap via the Pos Kuala Mu route.

“The hiking leader reported that the victim was missing after a check when they descended the hill at the Kem Site Sungai Chinak at 6 PM.

“The hiking team, along with five mountain guides, conducted a search up to the summit of Mount Yong Yap but did not find the victim.

“At 10:03 PM, the hiking leader and 15 participants made a police report at the Sungai Siput Police Station.

“Today, the operation leader informed that the victim was found by a member of the public in a rubber plantation at 10 AM,” he said here today.

He added that the victim was then brought by the public to the fire department at 10:26 AM.
