TANJUNG MALIM: Residents of Sungai Liat and surrounding areas can now breathe a sigh of relief as the newly constructed Bailey bridge is set to open next Wednesday.
The temporary 46-meter-long bridge was built after the existing bridge spanning Sungai Liat collapsed last week.
Construction work on the bridge, which began two days ago, is expected to be fully completed by this Sunday.
Once installation is complete, the Public Works Department (JKR) will carry out road repair works to reconnect the damaged access routes.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, visited the construction site at Sungai Liat near Felda Sungai Klah.
In the incident last Sunday, around 500 people were affected by the bridge collapse in Sungkai, Tanjung Malim.
The bridge serves as a crucial link to Felda Residence Hotspring, Buyong Mas Sanctuary Campsite, Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tisong, and several smaller camping areas.
Although there is an alternative route, it can only be accessed by four-wheel-drive vehicles or motorcycles.
