By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh now boasts improved and more comfortable facilities following the completion of its recent upgrade works.

The upgrade scope included the expansion of the terminal building, enhancements to check-in and arrival areas, and more efficient immigration facilities.

Security features were also improved, including the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and scanning machines.

Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, said the terminal building is now larger and can accommodate up to 700,000 passengers annually.

He noted that this represents a 40 percent increase from the previous capacity of 500,000 passengers.

“This upgrade has more than doubled the airport’s peak-hour passenger handling capacity, from 240 to 510 passengers per hour.

“An integrated car rental and taxi counter has been introduced at the Arrival Hall, along with more passenger-friendly food and beverage outlets,” he said.

He made the statement during the Launch Ceremony for the Improvements and Upgrades of LTSAS held today.

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the ceremony, accompanied by Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad and Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook.

Mohd Izani emphasized that MAHB’s commitment aligns with the goal of upgrading national aviation infrastructure for the country’s long-term development.

“We carry this responsibility with utmost dedication, as airports are strategic national assets vital for connectivity, security, and economic development,” he added.

LTSAS currently operates daily flight services by AirAsia to Johor Bahru and Scoot to Singapore.
