PUMM and Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh Handover AED to SJK(C) Sam Chai

by KT Leong

Malaysia’s Entrepreneurs’ Development Association or PUMM (Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia) Perak and Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh collaborated to perform the handover of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to SJK(C) Sam Chai, Ipoh; as well as a training session for the students and teachers in attendance.

The handover, which was held on 28 May, had 350 students from years 4 to 6 in attendance. The training session included lessons on how to respond to a variety of emergency situations, such as what to do if someone was suffering from a seizure or a burn injury.

In attendance was Madam Wong Mei Leng, the School Principal, Mr. Robin Low Swee Chai, the PUMM Perak Chairman, Dr. Yong Chee Kheong, the Medical Director Cum Head of Accident and Emergency from Sunway and Mr. Yip Chee Keong, the representative from Lembaga Pengelola.

Dr. Yong highlighted the importance of safety readiness, as conditions such as cardiac arrests can strike at anytime and at anywhere, including a school. Which is why every minute and even every second counts towards a person’s survival rate. This is why the immediate use of an AED, combined with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), can be very important.

“That’s why today is not just about placing equipment on school grounds. It’s about building awareness, confidence, and readiness. It’s about giving your teachers, staff, and even students the tools they need to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency.

“We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to PUMM Perak, under the leadership of Mr. Robin Low, for making this collaboration possible.
