IPOH: A total of 5,540 kg of packeted cooking oil was seized from a packaging factory located in the Jelapang industrial area here, after it was suspected of using an unauthorized halal logo.

According to the Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the raid was conducted on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

He said the raid on the factory was carried out in collaboration with the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk).

“A cooking oil packaging factory is suspected of using an invalid halal certificate for commercial purposes.

“During the raid, it was found that the factory was actively packaging cooking oil and using a halal logo on the product packaging.

“Further checks revealed that the halal certificate had been suspended due to violations of halal certification requirements,” he said in a statement here today.

Following this, action was taken under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.

He added that the total value of the seized goods is estimated at RM14,233.

Additionally, a 33-year-old local man who claimed to be the company manager has been questioned.

Kamalludin stated that the case is being investigated for violating Paragraph 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 [Act 730].

It is an offence under Paragraph 8(a) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, which prohibits falsely certifying any food as halal.
