MANJUNG: Action has been taken against certain individuals attempting to dominate public areas at Teluk Senangin Beach, causing discomfort to visitors.
Previously, it went viral that individuals were placing chairs, tables, and tents for rent on the beach—an act that is actually against the law.
In the interest of public welfare, enforcement officers from the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) conducted a sudden raid to curb these activities.
Various items were confiscated, including tents set up along the Teluk Senangin Beach area.
Among the seized items were 220 chairs, 19 wooden tables, one metal table, one umbrella, 25 floats, and 3 tents.
The action was taken under Section 46(1)(d) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), which prohibits any form of obstruction in public areas.
Meanwhile, MPM’s Strategic Communications and Public Relations Department stated that the operation was supported by the Manjung District Police Headquarters.
The act of individuals charging visitors at Teluk Senangin Beach goes against MPM’s policy regarding the management of public beaches.
“Teluk Senangin Beach is a public beach open to all segments of society for recreation, relaxation, and picnic activities.
“No charges should be imposed for casual activities such as laying out mats, gathering with family, or using the beach area for rest.
“MPM has never appointed, authorized, or issued any permit to any individual, association, or organization to collect fees from beach visitors,” the statement said.
The same offense also applies to other public beaches under MPM’s jurisdiction.
Therefore, the public is encouraged to file complaints if any party claims to have the authority to do so, as it is against the law.
