BATU GAJAH: Who doesn’t know Dato’ Lat, Malaysia’s Royal Artist and renowned cartoonist?
The opportunity to learn drawing directly from him is incredibly rare — especially given his busy schedule.
However, this was a stroke of luck for the participants of the ‘Drawing Workshop with Dato’ Lat’ held at the Lat House Gallery in Batu Gajah.
The participants included students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Toh Indera Wangsa Ahmad and Diploma in Fine Arts students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Seri Iskandar Campus.
Organised by the Perak State Museum Board, the program offered students an exclusive chance to gain knowledge and hands-on experience directly from Dato’ Lat himself.
Dato’ Lat is best known for his works that reflect the daily lives and culture of Malaysian society.
In addition to the drawing workshop, the event also featured a Knowledge Exploration Program in collaboration with the Perak State Public Library Corporation.
The initiative aims to instill a love for knowledge and a reading culture among the younger generation.
The program helps nurture a deeper interest in the arts among students and connects them to Malaysia’s artistic heritage through a face-to-face and interactive approach.
Hosting it at the Lat House Gallery further fuels the passion and appreciation for the nation’s artistic legacy.
