IPOH: A mortar-type bomb was discovered near kilometre (km) 265 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), southbound, at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the bomb was found by a supervisor from a cleaning company who was clearing trees and grass in the area.

“A 51-year-old man, the supervisor, lodged a police report regarding the discovery at 12:15 p.m.,” he said.

Following the report, a team from the Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) of the Perak State Police Headquarters (IPK), assisted by UPB officers from the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD), was dispatched to the location.

“They examined the bomb and confirmed that it was a complete and unexploded 81mm mortar ordnance,” he added in a statement released last night.

He further stated that the bomb disposal team successfully destroyed the mortar within an hour without any injuries or casualties.
