Taman Tambun Safety Works Set for Completion This July

By Anne Das & Balqis Zahari

Following our previous Ipoh Echo report on safety concerns along the Jalan Tambun stretch, affecting Taman Tambun and nearby communities, official confirmation has arrived that road upgrades have been approved and are scheduled for completion by the end of July 2025.

The junction, located along one of Ipoh’s busiest stretches, has seen a number of accidents over the past year. Residents have highlighted issues such as speeding vehicles, blind bends and unclear turn-offs into their neighbourhoods.

In a recent traffic meeting chaired by the Mayor of Ipoh, a plan was approved after a series of site visits by Y.Bhg Dato’ Mazlan Bin Abd Rahman, Ketua WHIP Ahli Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh, who has been monitoring the area closely.

“I live in Taman Tambun and travel this road daily, so I’ve witnessed the near misses and accidents myself,” said Dato’ Mazlan in an exclusive interview with Ipoh Echo. “It was clear that something had to be done.”

After conducting visits with officers from MBI, JKR and Puncak Emas, and one with the Mayor himself, a plan was approved to improve safety along this stretch of Tambun. The measures include raised speed bumps to slow down traffic, signal lights to regulate the flow of vehicles, safety mirrors to improve visibility at the bend, and additional signage to support safer navigation and visibility along the route.

With these changes in place, traffic is expected to slow down considerably, allowing residents of Taman Tambun, Taman Panorama and Taman Selasar to move in and out of their neighbourhoods with greater ease.

Dato’ Mazlan noted that the signboards and signal lights are already prepared, with only the materials for the speed bump awaiting delivery. “Once that arrives, we’ll move quickly. I’ve spoken to the engineers, and we expect completion by the end of this month.”

The road, which connects Tambun to Sunway City, was jointly funded by Sunway Group and MBI. It handles high daily traffic volumes and has long presented challenges for those trying to access residential areas safely.

Ipoh Echo had also previously flagged other concern points nearby, including the exit from the Caltex station, where cars must edge into the main road to gain visibility, and the junctions near Taman Panorama Tambun and Taman Selasar under the flyover.

Dato’ Mazlan acknowledged these during the interview and confirmed that site visits will be conducted to assess jurisdiction and determine what further steps can be taken. Until then, the improvements already approved are expected to ease conditions along this corridor.

Residents who voiced their concerns in Ipoh Echo’s earlier report will likely be encouraged by the response. With upgrades now confirmed and scheduled, safer access for the community is finally within reach.

If there are safety issues in your area, take note, speak to your neighbours, and share your concerns with your local councilor. As seen in Tambun, clear communication and follow-up can help move things forward.
