Another Milestone for the Orang Asli Community

IPOH: The success of the Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) from Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Gopeng, in being selected to represent Perak at the National Firefighter Drill is not only a win for the state but also a proud moment for the Orang Asli community.

This marks a significant achievement as they are the first Orang Asli community-based PBS in Perak, and they also emerged as the overall champions in the PBS category at the state level.

According to Perak’s Executive Councillor for Housing and Local Government, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, the team will represent Perak at the competition organized by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department in Terengganu at the end of this month.

“As the first Orang Asli community-based PBS in Perak, their achievement is truly commendable.

“As the State Assemblyperson for the area and Exco overseeing fire and rescue matters, I am incredibly proud of the passion and commitment shown by the youth of Ulu Geruntum,” she said.

She added that the state will continue to fully support the team while encouraging more communities — especially in rural and ecotourism areas — to establish their own PBS units to enhance local safety and resilience.
