KAMUNTING: A total of 605 packets of subsidised cooking oil were seized from a premises in Lorong IKA, Industri Kamunting Aman, after authorities discovered the quantity far exceeded the licensed limit.
The 1-kilogram packets were allegedly used to prepare food for foreign workers — meals that were both cooked and sold by the same group, believed to be foreign nationals themselves.

According to Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the Thursday operation uncovered the cooking oil stored inside four ice containers and several baskets, kept in the rear section of the premises that served as a kitchen.
“A team of officers from the Taiping KPDN branch carried out Ops Tiris at the location.
“All the 1kg cooking oil packets were believed to have been used for food preparation for foreign workers, and the operation was also managed by foreigners.
“Investigations revealed that the food was sold to other foreign workers as well,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Further checks showed that the premises owner — a 36-year-old local woman — was in possession of cooking oil well beyond the licensed limit allowed by the authorities.
The total estimated value of the seized items is RM1,512.50.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 for possessing controlled goods beyond the licensed quantity.
