IPOH: All stray dogs buried at the Lahat Animal Detention Centre underwent the put to sleep (PTS) process humanely and were not buried alive, as alleged.
In a statement, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) clarified that the PTS procedure was carried out by the Perak State Department of Veterinary Services (JPV), the responsible and authorized agency for animal welfare management.
“Referring to the viral video uploaded on social media and news portals concerning the burial of dogs,
“MBI would like to clarify that this was part of the standard operating procedure (SOP) established for managing stray animals.
“MBI strongly denies the allegation that the dogs were buried alive.
“Animal burials are only conducted after confirmation of death has been obtained from the JPV, to ensure that carcass disposal is done safely and in accordance with public health standards,” the statement said.
They added that MBI remains committed to ensuring all actions related to the management of stray animals are carried out ethically, responsibly, and in line with procedures set by the relevant agencies.
For any inquiries or further information, the public may contact the MBI Enforcement and Security Department or Perak JPV.
On Tuesday, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) Perak demanded that MBI and the relevant state executive councillor provide an explanation regarding the alleged inhumane treatment of stray dogs that recently went viral in Lahat.
Previously, a video had gone viral clearly showing uniformed workers managing a mass burial of dogs.
The video allegedly showed several live dogs still in cages being discarded like trash into the burial pit.
