SUNGAI SIPUT: A forested area at the summit of Bukit Berekeh here, covering an estimated 10 acres, caught fire in scattered patches.
According to a spokesperson from the Perak State Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), more than 40 personnel, including firefighters and members from various agencies, were involved in efforts to extinguish the blaze.
“The fire involves forested areas at the summit of Bukit Berekeh, with the estimated burnt area spanning around 10 acres in scattered spots.
“No victims were involved, and the operations commander instructed the team to hike from the foot of the hill to the summit, with the journey estimated to take about an hour.
“Fire suppression was carried out using five units of fire beaters,” the statement said here today.
The spokesperson added that around 8 a.m., the first team was deployed to the location to assess and extinguish the fire.
“At 8:40 a.m., the second team arrived at the scene for further assessment and firefighting, followed by a third team at 9:30 a.m.
“Subsequently, an AW 189 aircraft from the Subang Air Base was dispatched to the fire location,” the spokesperson added.
The operation involved 25 firefighters, 5 members of the Civil Defence Force (APM), 9 members of RELA (People’s Volunteer Corps), and one community firefighter.
