IPOH: A total of 1,820 graduates from 20 fields of study were celebrated at the 53rd Convocation Ceremony of Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO), held from August 19 to 21 this year.

In a statement, PUO said the graduates comprised those who completed their studies in Session II 2023/2024, Session I 2024/2025, and the Bachelor’s Degree program in Academic Session II 2023/2024.

“This ceremony involved 1,768 diploma graduates, 48 bachelor’s degree recipients, and four recipients of the construction skills certificate.

“The Ungku Omar Award this time was conferred on Diploma in Information Technology (Digital Technology) graduate, Nur Izzah Khalida Khairudin,” the statement said.

As of August 2025, PUO has produced 90,387 TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) graduates in the fields of engineering, commerce, and information technology.

The first session of the convocation was officiated by Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Datuk Dr. Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian, who represented the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Dr. Anesee Ibrahim.

The statement also noted that PUO had previously offered five Bachelor’s Degree programs that received encouraging responses.

“This year, the institution once again made history by successfully introducing two new programs for the September 2025/2026 intake.

“Namely, the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology with Honours and the Bachelor of Computer Engineering Technology with Honours,” it said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Megat Sany stated that the graduates’ achievements prove that the country is on the right track toward achieving developed nation status, driven by a highly skilled workforce in line with the National TVET Policy 2030.

“TVET Malaysia is envisioned to be responsive, flexible, and inclusive—always ready to adapt, open to all, and able to meet industry needs.

“In line with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12), and the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.

He added that today’s TVET graduates are being prepared as the driving force of high-value industries, contributing to the nation’s social and economic balance.

“This is to create a conducive and competitive working environment, not just to fill job vacancies,” he said.
