800 Children Celebrate Merdeka at Ipoh Parade Colouring Contest 2025

IPOH, 26 Aug – Ipoh Parade was awash with colour and creativity last Sunday as some 800 children aged 4 to 12 came together for the Merdeka Colouring Contest 2025, celebrating Malaysia’s National Day with brushes, crayons, and boundless imagination.
Jointly organised with World of Colours Art Centre, the contest was divided into three categories – ages 4–6, 7–9, and 10–12 – with participants showcasing their artistic flair while expressing patriotism through their colourful masterpieces. Year after year, the event captured the spirit of unity as children translated their love for the nation into vibrant artworks.
“The contest is more than just a colouring competition – it is a celebration of Malaysia’s diversity, creativity, and pride,” said Lim Huey Tyng, Ipoh Parade Advertising and Promotions department manager. “We are delighted to see so many young talents expressing their patriotism in such a meaningful way, while families came together to share in the festivities.”
The event saw strong support from parents and the wider community, with the mall’s concourse buzzing throughout the day. A total prize pool worth over RM10,000 was awarded, with champions in each category walking away with prizes worth RM500, followed by 1st and end runner-ups winning RM300 and 200 worth of prizes respectively; while consolation prizes and certificates ensured the children’s efforts were celebrated.
The contest was made possible through the support of generous sponsors including Ebony Guitar Music House, Hush Puppies, Parkson, Sylvanian Families, MacGician, My Home One, Popular, Y2 Cam, D.O.R, A&W, Ilike& Yogurt in a Can, ZUS Coffee, and Starbucks, who contributed prizes and vouchers that added excitement to the occasion.
As Malaysia heads towards its 68th Merdeka Day, the colourful expressions of the children stand as a reminder of the unity and hope that bind the nation together.
