TELUK INTAN: A factory processing and supplying fish crackers in Hutan Melintang was raided by authorities after it failed to produce a valid Malaysian halal certification.
The operation was carried out last Monday by enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Perak, Teluk Intan branch, in collaboration with the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk).

According to the Director of KPDN Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the raid revealed that the factory was actively producing fish cracker products and using a halal logo on the packaging.
“The factory is suspected of using an unauthorized halal logo for commercial purposes.
“Further inspection found that the factory owner failed to provide a valid Malaysian Halal Certification,” he said.
As a result, legal action was taken under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.

A total of 880 boxes of fish products bearing the unauthorized halal logo were seized.
“The seized goods are estimated to be worth RM40,299. At the same time, enforcement officers also discovered 1,750 liters of diesel and 136 kilograms (kg) of packet cooking oil at the premises.
“The factory owner failed to present any approval letters, licenses, or permits for storing controlled items when requested,” he added.
He further stated that all the diesel and packet oil were confiscated, with the seized goods valued at approximately RM5,065.
The case will be investigated under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 for the offense of using a halal logo without official certification from the recognized authority, JAKIM.
Additionally, the factory owner will also be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for allegedly possessing or storing scheduled controlled items—diesel and packet cooking oil—without written permission from the supply controller.
