14 Passengers, Drivers Safe After Express Bus Crashes Into Drain

SLIM RIVER: A total of 14 people, including two drivers, escaped unharmed when the express bus they were traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a drain at kilometre (km) 369 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, near Sungkai today.

According to a spokesperson from the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the incident occurred at 12:56 p.m.

The express bus was en route from Melaka to Butterworth, Penang.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the express bus traveling from Melaka to Butterworth had skidded into a roadside drain along the highway.

“All 12 passengers and two drivers were unharmed and did not suffer any injuries.

“The passengers later continued their journey to their respective destinations using another bus,” the spokesperson said here today.

The spokesperson added that the operations commander conducted a size-up and monitored the surrounding area to ensure no other victims were involved, before handing the case over to the police for further action.
