IPOH: The city of Ipoh is well known for its greenery, but not everything green needs to be preserved—especially the lush overgrowth in the monsoon drain located behind the National Garden Apartment Flats near Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah.
According to a complainant, the drain is supposed to channel and contain large amounts of rainwater during heavy downpours, but instead, it is overgrown with bushes and vegetation, causing blockages.

They also claimed that the authorities have not cleaned the area for a long time, raising concerns that it may contribute to certain problems, especially flash floods.
“The monsoon drain behind the National Garden Apartment Flats is filled with bushes and greenery.
“The relevant authorities must clean it immediately and do so regularly so it doesn’t continue to be overrun with vegetation. I believe this issue is happening in several places around Ipoh,” they told Ipoh Echo / Peraktastic.

A monsoon drain refers to a large drainage system built to contain and channel heavy rainfall, especially during the monsoon season (the season of heavy rains).
The main function of a monsoon drain is to prevent flash floods, quickly direct rainwater to rivers or the sea, and manage the drainage system in urban areas.
