Samantha Hong is no stranger to transformation.

Once struggling with obesity and poor lifestyle habits, she encountered trampoline workouts and experienced the benefits firsthand.

Inspired by the change, she decided to share those benefits with the Ipoh community.

In 2023, she opened TAS Studio, the city’s first trampoline fitness studio.

Samantha is a certified trampoline fitness instructor as well as a Zumba instructor.

Her classes don’t just stop at workouts.

She also provides health advice, post-recovery drinks such as shakes packed with fibre, protein and minerals, and even body weight and measurement analysis.

To keep things engaging, she runs monthly group challenges, while the classes are set to upbeat music with lights that flash in rhythm, giving the studio the energy of a mini concert.

Trampoline fitness has gained popularity worldwide as a fun, effective way to stay active.

Studies show that 10 minutes of trampoline jumping can burn as many calories as 30 minutes of running.

It is also a low-impact workout suitable for those with joint or knee issues, making it accessible for people of all ages, including seniors.

TAS Studio’s members have experienced the benefits firsthand.

  • Su Yi Ling (33), a nurse, joined less than a year ago weighing 80kg. Through the programme and healthy eating, she gradually reduced her weight to 65kg. “This helps me release stress. Every day I face patients going through tough times, and trampoline fitness gives me better mental health and a clearer mind,” she said.
  • Shirly Chu (37), who lives with a slip disc and has an implant in her back, found trampoline workouts more comfortable than jogging, which caused pain. She said her balance and core strength have improved, and her 65-year-old mother also prefers trampoline classes as a way to sweat and stay active. “This place is not only about exercising but gives you healthy advice and tips for lifestyle,” she added.

  • Siti Norizzati (29) admitted she was skeptical at first. “I was worried whether trampolines could hold me because I’m plus size. But in my first class, I managed to finish one hour. I kept coming, gained confidence, lost weight, and made friends here,” she shared.

Since opening in Botani, TAS Studio has attracted people from all walks of life including children, young adults, working professionals, and retirees.

What began as one woman’s journey has grown into a community favorite in her neighborhood.

Now, trampoline fitness is slowly branching out, reaching new groups across Ipoh.

With its mix of fun, accessibility and proven benefits, it may well become a lasting addition to the city’s fitness culture.
