GOPENG: Around 120 participants from both Malaysia and abroad recently took part in Randuk for Lampam Volume 4.0, held at Camping Site Atok Gonen here.

The programme, co-organised by the Perak State Fly Fishing Association and strategic partners including the Kampar District Council, PLANMalaysia Perak, sponsors, and the fly fishing community, saw international participation from Singapore and the United States.

According to a statement from the Kampar District Council, participants were divided into six groups based on designated zones.

“Each group undertook a river-wading activity along Sungai Kampar, covering an average distance of 1.3 kilometers,” the statement said.

Throughout the activity, participants were tested not only in terms of physical endurance and skills, but also had the chance to enjoy the natural beauty of Sungai Kampar — a key attraction of the area.

The main highlight of the programme was the Lampam fish-catching challenge.

“All catches were measured using the organiser’s official measuring tape.
The winner was determined by the largest Lampam fish caught,” it added.

Overall, the programme ran smoothly and successfully met its objectives of promoting Sungai Kampar as a river-based recreational site, bringing together participants from across the globe, and preserving local recreational traditions.

The event was officially launched by Toh Muda Orang Kaya Kaya Panglima Bukit Gantang Seri Amar Diraja Tuan Azman Dato’ Seri Yeop Junior, the Orang Besar Jajahan Kampar.

Also in attendance were Muhamad Hisham Hashim, Director of PLANMalaysia Perak; officers from federal, state and district departments; local councillors; and heads of departments from the Kampar District Council.
