Ipoh — In a remarkable achievement that highlights both community spirit and visionary leadership, residents of Simpang Pulai successfully collected 600 kilograms of used cooking oil (UCO) in just four hours through a collaborative effort.
The initiative, spearheaded by Biovisma and Green Energy Asia (GEA) in partnership with Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing and Ipoh City Council (MBI) councillor Zuraidah Zakaria, saw hundreds of residents contributing from their own households in support of environmental sustainability.
The programme not only met its target but also showcased the true potential of collective action when local communities join forces with their leaders.

Zuraidah said community collaboration plays a vital role in driving public awareness towards building a circular economy and reducing pollution.
“We were deeply moved by the overwhelming response from residents. This proves that when communities and leaders work together, positive change can happen swiftly.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to every individual who contributed to UCO and to the volunteers who assisted with logistics, making this programme a success,” she said.
The collected used cooking oil will be processed by Green Energy Asia into clean and sustainable biofuel, a step that not only prevents river and soil pollution but also reduces reliance on fossil fuels.
With this spirit of cooperation, Simpang Pulai has demonstrated that small actions by many individuals can create a significant impact on environmental sustainability.
