Perak to Establish Transit Shelter for Stray and Abandoned Dogs

Ipoh, Sept 12 — The Perak state government, in collaboration with Friends of Pawsitive, is set to establish a transit shelter for stray and abandoned dogs.
Perak Housing and Local Government committee chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said the initiative comes amid a surge in public complaints about strays, while existing pound facilities remain limited.

“Our biggest challenge is the rising number of complaints involving strays, particularly related to safety, public disturbance and hygiene.
“Local authorities need to act swiftly in the interest of public safety. However, existing pound capacity is limited, and there are various laws and regulations that must be observed.
“Representatives from my office, together with Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Friends of Pawsitive, have already identified a potential site for the shelter.
“The state government is also prepared to offer land at a symbolic rental rate for the NGO to manage,” she said.
Ng added that the facility would allow stray dogs to be removed from community areas more efficiently, while also giving NGOs more time to facilitate adoptions and provide abandoned animals with a renewed chance at life.
