MANJUNG: Safety aspects, particularly maintenance at teachers’ quarters, need to be given attention to ensure the premises are safe and to prevent any untoward incidents.

This follows a fire incident at the Batu 10 Teachers’ Quarters in Lekir here, which involved one teacher’s residential unit.

In the incident, the affected house reportedly suffered nearly 40 percent damage, including the destruction of property.

The Chief of Armada Bersatu Lumut Division, Syed Alif Rikiman Syed Alwi, expressed his disappointment upon discovering that no maintenance had been carried out on the electrical system in the unit.

He also urged the District Education Office (PPD) to take immediate action regarding safety aspects at all teachers’ quarters, particularly involving the electrical systems and fire safety equipment.

“When I conducted an inspection, it was clear that no electrical maintenance had been done, and even the fire extinguishers had not been checked since 2014.

“I urge the PPD to take the necessary action for the safety of the educators living here,” he said.

However, he expressed relief that the incident did not result in any injuries or loss of life.
