IPOH:Beginning next year, the Ipoh branch of the National Art Gallery, housed in the iconic Old Ipoh Post Office building, will officially open its doors, further strengthening the development of visual arts in this city.

The historic colonial-era building, over 100 years old and located next to the Ipoh Town Hall, is being revitalized as an arts center.

As a curtain-raiser, the National Art Gallery organized the ‘Ipoh Suka Langka’ program ahead of the full opening of the National Art Gallery Ipoh branch.

This two-day program featured several key locations around Ipoh, including Dataran Dato’ Sagor, the Town Hall, Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque, and the Ipoh Old Town area.

It showcased a variety of activities that blended visual arts, culture, and community in a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.

Among the highlights was the Neon Art Walk, held at night.

The 1.5-kilometer leisure walk attracted around 400 participants, bringing a lively energy to the streets of Ipoh.

Other art competitions held included Ipoh Plein Air, Mobilegraphy – Artistic Trails, and a Children’s Coloring Contest.

Community activities included Skate Jam, while interactive workshops featured AR Colouring, Animation Screenings, and Doodle Workshops, alongside stage performances.

One of the most exciting features was the Projection Mapping Show displayed on the building of the National Art Gallery Ipoh branch each night of the program.

This immersive showcase combined digital technology, creative expression, and audience experience.

Earlier, the program was officially launched by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Dato’ Shaharuddin Abu Sohot.

According to him, once fully opened, the National Art Gallery Ipoh branch is expected to become a contemporary art hub for the community and art practitioners.

“This venue will highlight the diversity of local visual arts and culture, as well as the rich history and heritage of Ipoh, which holds many unique features.”

“The official opening of the National Art Gallery Ipoh branch will provide a contemporary space that will enrich the arts landscape in Perak,” he said.
