By Yashila Issabelle

Coffee has long been part of Ipoh’s charm, and in recent years, the city has seen a growing wave of cafés and specialty brewers.

This September, coffee also became a platform for learning when students from Quest International University (QIU) stepped into the scene.

From September 20 to 21, a team of 10 Advertising students from QIU organised a coffee pop-up at Kong Heng Square.

The project formed part of their Advertising Campaign course and final project, guided by Mr Edward Koh, course lecturer and Head of the School of Communication.

Mr Edward highlighted that the event was “solely a student initiative,” with his role limited to guidance when needed.

What made the effort stand out was the collaboration behind it.

The students worked with two young entrepreneurs from Perak: Jensen Wong, founder of Lovfee Coffee, and Darren Chan Kenn Hann, founder of cookie brand DaKooke.

One of the highlights of the pop-up was the chance for visitors to pour their own latte art, guided by the team.

Team leader Wong Bi Xuan (23) shared that the project gave her and her peers “a chance to experience working with clients and to put into practice the knowledge we’ve gained in class.”

Planning and execution were fully in student hands.

From preparing campaign materials to managing the event floor, the team experienced every stage of an advertising campaign.

It was a chance to test their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, and to learn how to work with clients and audiences directly.

The pop-up drew support from fellow students, lecturers, and members of the public, many of whom stopped by to enjoy the atmosphere and cheer on the team.

For students, this was a step into the realities of working life, showing them how ideas can come alive when knowledge, teamwork, and creativity meet.

The event was a success, giving the team confidence in their skills and leaving them better prepared for future initiatives with greater readiness.
