IPOH: Their contributions to the city of Ipoh are immense—they are the unsung heroes.
These are the dedicated workers of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) who carry out solid waste management and public cleaning duties.
The Solid Waste Management Unit is responsible for waste collection at MBI public markets, hawker centres, food courts, as well as rural domestic waste collection.
Meanwhile, the Public Cleaning Unit handles street sweeping, garden and bulk waste services, illegal waste cleanup, and cleaning of public markets, food courts, and hawker centres.

To recognise the invaluable contributions of these workers, MBI has introduced a reward initiative, selecting field personnel who demonstrate excellent monthly performance.
This award was inspired by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, with the goal of motivating and uplifting the morale of field workers, who are the backbone of MBI’s core services.
For the month of September, five workers were selected as award recipients.
They are Shahril Izwan Mohd Nazri, Othman Harun, Fatimah Ismail, Michael Raymond A/L Julias, and Mohd Firdaus Mohamad.
Each received a certificate of appreciation, a cash incentive, and had their photos displayed at the MBI office.
This recognition is expected to boost morale among field staff and foster healthy competition to continue delivering excellent services for the well-being of the city’s residents.
