IPOH, – To address the recurring traffic congestion along the Menora and Meru Tunnels on the North-South Expressway, a coordination meeting was convened at the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).
Perak Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari, chaired the meeting.
Discussions focused on the severe traffic bottlenecks that frequently occur in the tunnel areas, especially during road accidents, which often delay the arrival of emergency response teams, such as the Fire and Rescue Department and ambulance services.

A collective approach among all relevant agencies was emphasised as crucial to ensuring smoother traffic flow and more efficient emergency response.
Enhanced coordination between agencies is also essential to expedite action during accidents and facilitate easier passage for rescue vehicles.
Representatives from various security and enforcement agencies, highway operators, and technical departments directly involved in traffic and emergency management along the route were also present at the meeting.

The meeting is expected to produce both short- and long-term action plans aimed at reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of emergency response operations along the critical stretch.
The most recent accident occurred last Wednesday, when a lorry skidded and blocked the road at Kilometre (KM) 257 of the northbound North-South Expressway after the Menora Tunnel.
Traffic was reported to have been heavily congested, with vehicles at a standstill for more than eight kilometres following the closure of the affected lane.
