IPOH: Heaps of garbage clogging drains and causing frequent flash floods around Kampung Baru Khantan have caught the attention of the authorities.
The situation not only involves piles of trash but also foul smells due to blocked drainage, which has become a persistent problem for local residents.

Chairman of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) Whip, Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman, said that his team has gone to the ground to personally inspect the issues raised by the community.
“I went down to see firsthand the flash flood problem and the terrible condition of the drainage system.
“Our inspection found that the drains in the area are in a very filthy state, filled with rubbish and emitting foul odours, causing water flow to be blocked and resulting in flash floods.
“The condition of the damaged manholes is also very concerning, as they pose a serious safety risk to children if not repaired immediately,” he said.

He also advised night market traders not to dispose of waste indiscriminately, to prevent the drains from clogging further.
“This area has been identified as under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (JKR), not the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
“We have requested JKR to clean up the area and repair the damaged manholes, while Team Puncak Emas will patch the potholes for the safety and comfort of residents,” he added.
He also mentioned that a meeting with JKR will be held to discuss long-term solutions to the problem.
