Ipoh residents are invited to spend this weekend learning, planting, and discovering new ideas at Green Tech Perak 2025, an event dedicated to bringing sustainability and innovation to everyday life.

Organised by the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) under the patronage of YB Teh Kok Lim, the initiative runs from 25 to 28 October 2025 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah and Hotel Casuarina @ Meru.

All activities are free of charge, and participants can register by scanning the QR code on the event poster to secure limited seats.

Green Tech Perak 2025 translates the goals of Perak Sejahtera 2030 into practical action.

While sustainability is often discussed at the industrial level, this programme opens it up to the wider community, encouraging people of all ages to take part in workshops, talks, and outdoor experiences that connect innovation with everyday living.

Everyone who attends the four-day programme will receive a certificate of participation, making it a valuable opportunity especially for students and youths interested in science, the environment, and AI.

Hands-On Experiences for All Ages

The weekend will feature The Perak Science Fair for Youth and Climate Resilience & Global Peace Pocket Talks, both open to the public, including adults, families, and children.

These interactive sessions will explore how technology and environmental awareness can work hand in hand.

The talks will feature around 30 speakers from various universities and research institutes across Malaysia and Singapore, offering regional perspectives on science, sustainability, and innovation.

Meanwhile, GENIUS LAB workshops focusing on STEM digital literacy and AI Teach-ESG are specially designed for youths and students to gain hands-on exposure to emerging technologies and sustainability education.

Connecting Urban and Indigenous Communities

A highlight of the weekend is the Rainforest Tree-Planting Programme, which uses saplings sourced from Forest House’s Conservation nursery.

This is a living rainforest seedbank that grows a micro rainforest for our future generations with Perak’s rainforest trees species collection.

As a ground-up model of Micro Orang Asli tree nurseries and micro-entrepreneurism, Free Tree Society will showcase a fascinating collection of fruit tree saplings.

Partnerships That Strengthen Community

This initiative is made possible through the collaboration of organisations including Bilberries Blue, Sigar Highlands Sustainable Development Centre, Rymba, The Forest Keepers, Forest House Conservation, MICCI, PASAK, Digital Perak, Food Forest Farm and PKNPk.

Together, these groups are working to promote green technology, inclusion, and environmental education in Perak.

Invited local NGOs such as Perak Women for Women (PWW) and Ray of Hope and more will also be taking part in the weekend through performances, talks, and the tree-planting event.

“Principle 3 of Perak Sejahtera 2030 calls for responsible stewardship of our natural resources,” said YB Teh Kok Lim, State Chairman of Science, Environment and Green Technology.

“Green Tech Perak 2025 connects innovation with sustainability and people with purpose.”

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and learn directly from professors, researchers, and environmental advocates from Malaysia’s leading institutions.

Among the confirmed speakers are Prof. Dr. Siti Aisyah Hj. Allias, Dr. Koshy Philip, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Japareng Lalung, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farah Shafawati Mohd Taib, Dr. Wan Mohd Shukri Wan Ahmad, and Mr. Wan Mohammad Shafiz Azman, who will share their insights on sustainability, environmental health, and the importance of responsible innovation.

These experts represent some of the nation’s top research bodies, including the Institute of Ocean & Earth Sciences (IOES) and National Antarctic Research Centre (NARC) of Universiti Malaya, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), WilDER and LESTARI of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The Perak Community Specialist Hospital will also take part in the initiative, highlighting the vital link between community health and environmental wellbeing.

Together, their presence reflects the event’s strong spirit of collaboration: bridging science, sustainability, and community engagement for a greener, healthier Perak.

The event marks the beginning of a broader movement, one where sustainability is not just a policy but a shared community practice.

For those curious about science, technology, nature, or the future of Perak, Green Tech Perak 2025 offers a hands-on way to learn and participate in shaping a greener tomorrow.
