Flood Victims in Perak Exceed 2,000 as Rain Expected to Continue

IPOH — The number of flood victims seeking shelter at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across three districts in Perak has risen to 2,200 as of midday Friday.

According to the District Disaster Management Committee, the victims comprise of 756 families from the districts of Larut Matang and Selama (LMS), Manjung, and Perak Tengah.

A total of 23 PPS have been activated to accommodate evacuees, with LMS recording the highest number — 1,734 victims from 606 families — followed by Manjung, which has 466 victims from 150 families.

Among the affected areas in LMS are Kampung Simpang Halt, Kampung Ulu Sepetang, Kampung Batu 8, Taman Kota Wira, Taman Lara Aman, Taman Lara Damai, Kampung Changkat Larah, Kampung Sungai Relong, and Kampung Expo Tambahan.

In Manjung, the affected locations include Kampung Sungai Batu, Kampung Nelayan, Pantai Tin, Kampung Paya Takong, and Kampung Gado.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning on Friday for several districts across Perak, with rainfall expected to persist over the coming days.
