TAIPING: Many are familiar with the name Ngah Ibrahim, a prominent Malay leader in Perak during the 19th century who opposed British intervention in the state’s administration.
However, not many know in depth the story of this figure who held the title Orang Kaya Menteri in Larut in 1858, wielding authority over the areas of Larut, Krian, Kuala Beruas, and Bukit Berapit.
Therefore, the Perak Heritage Association, in collaboration with the Matang Museum, is organizing the Seminar on the Struggle of Tengku Menteri Ngah Ibrahim and the Launch of the Book “Kota Ngah Ibrahim dalam Lipatan Sejarah” this Saturday.

The event, which will take place at the Matang Museum Seminar Hall, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Date?)
It is held in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the assassination of J.W.W. Birch and the 130th anniversary of the passing of Tengku Menteri Ngah Ibrahim, an important figure in the history of Perak.
The program brings together historians, heritage enthusiasts, and the local community to strengthen understanding of the struggle of this great leader from Larut, Matang, and Selama.

The Speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly, Dato’ Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, will attend as the guest of honour, alongside Orang Kaya Menteri Paduka Tuan, Dato’ Haji Wan Mohd Isa, the Orang Besar Jajahan (District Chief) of Larut Matang Selama.
According to the organizers, the event not only aims to commemorate Ngah Ibrahim’s contributions and resistance against British colonialism but also seeks to revive the spirit of patriotism and love for Perak’s heritage.
In conjunction with the program, there will also be a book sale featuring “Kota Ngah Ibrahim dalam Lipatan Sejarah”, published by the Department of Museums Malaysia.
This book compiles various records, photographs, and important facts about the historic Kota Ngah Ibrahim Complex—a symbol of the nation’s resilience, struggle, and heritage.
