Senior Citizens Club of Perak Celebrated 48 Years With Annual Dinner

By KT Leong

The Senior Citizens Club of Perak (Orang Berida Perak), held their 48th Senior Citizens Club of Perak Annual Dinner at Kok Thai Restaurant on October 31, in a gathering that celebrated life and camaraderie.

The Senior Citizens Club of Perak is a great avenue for those in their golden years of 65 or older, to connect with other seniors, as well as to stay vital through social gatherings and fun activities. This year, they’ve added 22 new members and formed a live band of 6 members. They also have activities like learning line dancing, visits to locations like Hami Farm and the famous leaning tower at Teluk Intan. They also support each other’s good health, such as having a talk on Dementia, featuring Dr. Ginsky from Angsana Health as the guest speaker, as well as holding a first aid: anti-choking techniques for elderly people.

The guests of honour were Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament, Howard Lee Chuan How and Canning State Assemblyman and Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, Jenny Choy Tsi Jen. Howard Lee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure. While he acknowledged that potholes were still an issue, he also stated that they were doing their best to pave the main roads first, and that they would continue to prioritise improving infrastructure in the coming year. He also presented the club with a donation of RM8000, in support of the good work that they do in the interest of the senior community.

But this dinner wasn’t some sombre affair where everyone ate in silence, instead, there was a line dancing performance, followed by a fancy fashion show. The songs that were performed this year were punctuated by the live performances of the club’s new band. The addition of live piano and especially the drums, really added to the singalongs.

The 48h Senior Citizens Club of Perak Annual Dinner wasn’t just a celebration of an anniversary, but truly a celebration of life.
