BAGAN SERAI: This is not a small issue. Public roads must be safe. Don’t wait for a more serious incident to happen.

That was the call from residents, particularly congregants around Masjid Tinggi here, following an incident in which a man was injured after his motorcycle hit an open cable hole.

The open cable hole is believed to have resulted from cable theft activities.

The incident, which occurred while the victim was on his way home from the mosque, has raised concern among the local community.

They fear similar incidents may happen again, especially involving children and motorcyclists.

It is understood that the cable hole had been left uncovered, and worse still, no safety warning signs were placed by the responsible parties — posing an accident risk to road users.

Residents have also urged the local authorities and utility companies to immediately close the hole and conduct stricter monitoring to curb cable theft activities.

They hope the safety issue will not be taken lightly, as the area is the main route for congregants heading to Masjid Tinggi and is frequently used by residents.

Residents have also called on road users to be cautious and to share information so that more people are aware of the danger at the location.
