Ipoh, November 2025 — The Malaysian men’s hockey team concluded their preparations for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025 by playing two vital warm-up games against South Korea at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil. The team recorded one victory and one loss as they fine-tuned their form before the major tournament begins in Ipoh on November 23.
In the opening friendly match, Malaysia put on a great show and secured an easy 5-1 win. The Speedy Tigers played with a good tempo, quick passes, and strong finishing in the circle. This victory gave the team early momentum and increased their confidence as they get ready for the challenges ahead.

However, South Korea recovered strongly to defeat Malaysia 3-1 in the second warm-up game. Throughout the game, Korea appeared more organized and clinical, capitalizing on their opportunities and putting pressure on Malaysia’s defense.

The coaching staff used the opportunity to rest a number of important players for Malaysia, allowing them to test new combinations. This also allowed younger players to play against a formidable opponent and earn valuable minutes and experience.

Despite the inconsistent outcomes, the Speedy Tigers learned valuable lessons from both games. The warm-up exercises allowed the team to pinpoint their strengths, correct errors, and develop match rhythm before the competition started.
Strong teams like India, Belgium, New Zealand, South Korea, and Canada will compete in the 31st edition Sultan Azlan Shah Cup next week. As Malaysia will now concentrate on increasing consistency, honing set pieces, and enhancing team chemistry in anticipation of fierce competition.
With the competition just a few days away, Malaysia will keep getting ready and hopes to play with full confidence in Ipoh. The Speedy Tigers are committed to proving their tenacity and honoring their nation at home.
