Systematic Hawker Site Planned to Prevent Repeat Accidents

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: A proposal to create a more systematic trading site on Jalan Kledang Raya in Manjoi will be submitted to the local authorities (PBT) soon.

This is to prevent incidents like the one that occurred recently, where a truck slid and crashed into several stalls in the area.

According to the Village Head of Kampung Tengku Hussein, Iqbal Dinzly, the proposal had already been raised previously as the area has become increasingly busy with traders during the afternoon and evening.

It is also one of the popular stall locations in Manjoi after Tali Api, offering a variety of food and drinks.

“According to the traders there, the truck was left with its engine running (while buying food) at the top of the hill when it slid down and crashed into the keropok lekor stall and the fried chicken stall. Thankfully, no lives were lost.

“I have spoken with the driver and the affected stall operators, and for now, the decision is for each of them to lodge a police report first.

“I also advised that some compensation be given to the affected traders, but this depends on further discussions between them later.

“I will be submitting an application to develop a trading site on the field next to the area. There have already been several discussions with the Council Members previously,” he said.

He added that he and the Kampung Tengku Hussein committee will present the proposal to the PBT to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
