Coronation Cup 2025 Brings Another Thrilling Finish at Perak Turf Club

The Perak Turf Club hosted its signature Coronation Cup 2025 last Sunday, continuing a tradition that has made this classic race one of Perak’s more anticipated sporting events.

First run in 1985 to commemorate the installation of Sultan Azlan Shah, the Coronation Cup remains a highlight on the racing calendar, drawing distinguished guests, long-time supporters and friends of the Club.

Around seventy invited guests gathered at the Tan Sri Jeyaratnam Lounge, taking in the sweeping views of the track and limestone hills through the glass-fronted gallery.

The atmosphere stayed lively throughout the afternoon as guests mingled, watched the odds shift and enjoyed lunch by Tandoor Grill, followed by tea by Sin Yoon Loong.

Dato John Lim welcomed guests and friends of the Club, including representatives from the Japan Racing Association and the Royal Sabah Turf Club.

He spoke about the Club’s ongoing transformation, noting that many of the new facilities are already taking shape and that PTC is steadily moving toward its vision of becoming a vibrant Country and Sports Club for members and the wider community.

The Japan Racing Association Goodwill Trophy set the pace for the afternoon. Representatives from JRA were present for the ceremony, with Mr Kikuchi Ryota presenting the trophies.

Talkingtalkingguru finished strongly under jockey S. Sadam to secure the win for trainer K. Coetzee and Kaycee Stable.

The Coronation Cup 2025, carrying a prize purse of RM250,000. took centre stage as the feature race of the day. Good Star, wearing No. 4, delivered a confident run under jockey R. Shafiq to claim victory for trainer T. Mahadi and Good Stable.

The field stayed tightly grouped for most of the 1600m before Good Star pulled away in the final stages. Mr. Thean Meng Fatt, Chairman of Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia, presented the trophies to the winners.

The Royal Sabah Turf Club Goodwill Trophy added to the afternoon’s excitement. The visiting delegation from Sabah joined the ceremony, with Secretary-General Mr Ronald Ubing presenting the trophies.

Rocky Pegasus, horse No. 11, produced a steady, well-judged run under jockey A. Aify to win for trainer S. Siva and Zarinah Stable.

Inside the lounge, the social atmosphere grew more animated as the afternoon progressed. Guests compared picks, shared race card notes and enjoyed the easy camaraderie that defines race days here.

PTC officials and visiting representatives exchanged updates and strengthened ties. Conversations centred on upcoming racing calendars, regional collaborations and the shared commitment to keeping Perak’s racing scene active and engaging.

And in other exciting developments at the Perak Turf Club, the Ipoh Stables Market is said to be on track for its soft launch this December. Set within the century-old stables, the new market will feature a curated mix of food, produce and artisanal vendors, just in time for Christmas and New Year shopping.

Many of the Club’s upgraded facilities are also nearing completion, including new dining areas, a sports bar, an event hall for exhibitions and private functions and enhanced night lighting around the grounds.

With these developments progressing steadily, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Perak Turf Club. The racing calendar for next year will feature 26 race days, giving fans and supporters even more to look forward to.
