IPOH: All scrap business owners must ensure that every item traded is free from radioactive materials that could endanger public safety.
Perak Police Chief, Dato’ Noor Hisam Nordin, said this responsibility must be upheld by company owners as business licence holders.
“Every purchase of scrap items, including used equipment and materials, must go through proper radiation detection procedures.
“This includes initial screening using appropriate equipment as well as thorough inspections in accordance with guidelines set by the Atomic Energy Department,” he said.

He said this during a briefing session with the Atomic Energy Department and a meeting with licensed secondhand dealers in the Perak contingent.
The meeting aimed to strengthen two-way communication between authorities and licensees, as well as enhance the implementation of safety policies.
According to the Perak Police Chief, compliance with these procedures is important not only to fulfil licensing requirements but also to ensure the safety of workers, premises, and the surrounding community.
He stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) plays an important role in regular monitoring to ensure licence holders do not violate the law, especially regarding the storage or transfer of suspicious materials.
