An animal advocate had her head shaved bald in a livestream yesterday to raise both funds and awareness for the plight of the 350 or so strays of PapanSouls, an animal welfare non-governmental organization.
Puvaneswari Narayanasamy had her waist length hair shaved and donated to Persatuan Pink Champion Perak (PPCP), a Perak breast cancer support group. She did this #Bald4ThePaws initiative, as a fundraiser to help in building a shelter for the 350 souls at PapanSouls.
The balding session was done at Triple Hair Studio, where Puvaneswari was accompanied by her husband Ajit and their son, Keevan, who drove from Kuala Lumpur to surprise her with his support. Ms. Keshturi Sivam, President of PapanSouls, as well PapanSouls volunteers Ms. Ananthy, Mr. Dharma, Ms. Augustina, Ms. Priya and her son Raghav were also present. As well as Ms. Komala from PPCP.
Surrounded by her loving family and the folks from PapanSouls, Puvaneswari, who is also deaf and had to remove her hearing aid during the balding session, explained to the live viewers the reason she was shaving her head and what was required.
“Every time I visit the landfill or even hear updates from the ground, it breaks something inside me. These dogs have nothing, no shelter, no security, no certainty of surviving the night. And yet, they still look at us with trust,”
She also noted the importance of neutering one’s animals and to take care of them responsibly and with love.
She noted that the ultimate target for this fundraiser, where all the kind and generous donations would go directly to PapalSouls, was RM100,000.00. She broke down that the costing for the shelter itself was around RM70,000.00 with proper partitions, quarantine zone, water supply and so forth. So this amount was the main target, however, the remaining RM30,000.00 would be used to pay outstanding veterinary bills and to stock up on food for the strays.
As of 6 December, RM13819.78 has been raised for the shelter, which is still far from what’s needed to help these abandoned souls. Those who wish to contribute may do so by donating directly to Persatuan Prihatin Haiwan Terbiar Ipoh, Perak.
