Drains Are Not a Place to Throw Rubbish, Report to the Authorities

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: Drains function to channel rainwater or wastewater into the public drainage system and should not be used as a dumping ground for rubbish.

This is what has been happening in many areas, including at a drain near Jalan Wayang, Kampung Baru Buntong.

Such irresponsible and selfish behaviour not only causes negative effects such as flash floods and pollution, but also impacts the local community.

According to Buntong Zone Council Member, Lawrence Palanisamy, he has received complaints from the public regarding the issue.

“This complaint has been conveyed to the relevant department and immediate action has been taken to ensure the area is clean again.

“Throwing rubbish into drains not only pollutes the environment, but can also cause clogged drainage, flash floods, and adverse effects on the entire community.

“Let us work together to maintain the cleanliness of our surroundings. If you see someone doing this, advise them politely or report it to the authorities for further action.

“Do not turn drains into rubbish bins. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility for the well-being of the community,” he said.
