EWRF’s TEC Empowers Underprivileged Students in Tanjung Malim

TANJUNG MALIM – The Total Empowerment Camp (TEC) programme was successfully concluded yesterday, by the Education Welfare and Research Foundation (EWRF) Tanjung Malim Branch, with support from EWRF Malaysia, at SJKT Ladang Katayong, Tanjung Malim. The programme benefited approximately 50 Standard 6 Indian students from economically challenged backgrounds.

The 14-day short-term intensive camp, complemented by long-term follow-up support, focused on academic strengthening, character building, life skills development, and confidence enhancement. The programme was specially designed for high-risk, underachieving students from economically disadvantaged families, with the aim of improving their future prospects in both education and life.

The camp involved students from three schools, which were SJKT Slim River; SJKT Tan Sri Manikavasagam, Tanjung Malim and SJKT Ladang Katayong, Tanjung Malim. It was conducted with the assistance and cooperation of the respective school facilitators, ensuring effective engagement and support throughout the programme.

The programme was led by Mr. Lethumaya, Chairman of the EWRF Tanjung Malim Branch, with the assistance of Mr. Kumeresu and dedicated branch members. Coordination of the camp was done by Ms. Janani, a Central Committee Member of EWRF Malaysia and Civil Society Intervention (CSI) Task Force member.

The programme was graced by YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform). His presence served as strong encouragement and inspiration to the students, educators, and organisers.

Also present were Mr. Govindasamy, EWRF Past President and Advisor to the Tanjung Malim Branch; Mr. Jeya Kumar, EWRF National Deputy President; Mr. Sylverster Dhas, EWRF Vice President; and Mr. Deva, Chief Executive Officer of MySkill Foundation, along with leaders from various non-governmental organisations, parents, and teachers.

The TEC reflects EWRF’s continued commitment to empowering underprivileged students through education, character development, and holistic support, laying a strong foundation for a better future.
