BATU GAJAH: The practice of selling goods at traffic lights appears to be becoming increasingly widespread, especially among those selling sour mangoes with preserved plum.
Although many enforcement operations have been carried out by various agencies to curb the activity, the sellers never seem to be deterred.

The activity of selling fruit in the middle of the road or at traffic light intersections is extremely dangerous to the public as it can lead to traffic congestion and increase the risk of accidents.
Recently, enforcement officers from the Batu Gajah District Council carried out an operation to crack down on the activity.
“Who doesn’t like chilled cut fruit, right? But buying it in the middle of the road or at traffic light intersections is very dangerous.
“This activity is not permitted because drivers can become distracted, the risk of accidents is very high, vendors are exposed to danger from vehicles in congested areas, and it also causes additional traffic congestion.
“We would like to remind everyone that this activity violates the Road Transport Rules (LN 166/59) and the Hawkers’ By-Laws.
“Avoid being fined—let’s conduct business and make purchases at proper and safe locations,” the statement said.
The statement added that the Batu Gajah District Council (MDBG) will continue to conduct enforcement operations from time to time.
