Over 3,000 Turn Out for Ipoh’s First Carbon-Free Day 2026

IPOH: The first edition of Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) Carbon-Free Day 2026 received an encouraging response, with more than 3,000 city residents in attendance.

This edition was made more engaging through collaboration with the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS), the National Union of Local Authority Employees (ANULAE), and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Carrying the theme ‘Streets for People, Not for Cars’, the programme highlighted the importance of sustainable mobility in the city centre.

Persiaran Bandaraya was closed to vehicles and transformed into an eco-friendly community space and recreational area.

The main highlight was the CUEPACS Fun Run, which attracted nearly 2,000 participants who took part in a 5-kilometre leisure run.

The programme also introduced the MADANI Rahmah Sales, offering basic necessities at affordable prices.

Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy recycling exhibitions and green products, including MIZU Paint, which absorbs carbon dioxide.

The Green Innovation and Technology Hub showcased urban sustainability solutions, including an electric vehicle (EV) exhibition aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

In addition, a no-plastic campaign and used cooking oil collection were carried out.

Aerobics activities and fitness sessions were also held.

Meanwhile, the Know Your Medicine programme provided health advisory services to visitors.
