By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) successfully crippled a drug trafficking syndicate after seizing drugs worth RM37.3 million at a bungalow house in Ipoh on 16 January.

During the raid, two foreign nationals were arrested and are believed to be involved in the distribution of methamphetamine and MDMA.

Police discovered more than 843 kg of methamphetamine, 679 kg of chemical substances, and various drug-processing equipment.

Further inspections found MDMA drugs in the form of cement-like blocks weighing 618 kilograms.

The syndicate’s modus operandi involved using luxury residences as storage locations before distributing the drugs.

Urine tests revealed that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.

Police are currently tracking down another suspect, a Chinese national, who is believed to be involved in the syndicate.

The operation was the result of continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation with the public.

Police reminded that drug trafficking is a serious offence that can destroy communities and pose grave threats to national security.

Members of the public are urged to channel information on drug-related activities via the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
