V Club Archery and YMCA of Ipoh Partner Up To Promote Archery
Premiere Youth Open to Unite Ipoh's Archery Community

By KT Leong
V Club Archery, in partnership with the Young Man’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Ipoh, have announced the upcoming opening of the YMCA Archery Range, which will be inaugurated with the YMCA Ipoh Archery Open 2026 tournament on 7 February at YMCA Ipoh (outdoor field). With over RM26,000.00 in cash and equipment vouchers up for grabs, the tournament aims to provide a professional stage for the city’s growing population of young archers.
Registration and Equipment Inspections will begin from 7 am, with the field expected to be cleared by 6 pm.

The event marks the official debut of the upgraded training facilities at YMCA Ipoh. Central to this setup will be a newly installed, custom-engineered safety backstop. Standing at 4.5 meters tall and spanning the entire 33-meter width of the field, it is one of the most significant safety installations for a community range in the region, allowing for high-volume training in a secure environment. Constructed using kevlar, it will ensure the safety of the public and the safe retrieval of any arrows gone astray.

“Our vision at V Club Archery is simple: to make archery known and be accessible to everyone,” says Gerard Chin, the Event Director of this tournament.
“There is so much untapped talent in Ipoh. This competition is their chance to perform, but more importantly, this range exists to facilitate their daily training. We are building a home where the archery community can gather, train together, and grow the sport from the ground up.”

The tournament features the Under-12 (Male/Female) and Under-18 (Male/Female) Recurve categories. Due to the professional format of the shoot, there will only be 72 archers.
The prize pool, is worth over RM26,000.00 in total value. This includes RM2,400.00 in cash prizes and equipment vouchers to help athletes upgrade their gear.
For each category:
Gold: RM300.00 + vouchers worth RM3,000.00
Silver: RM200.00 + vouchers worth RM2,000.00
Bronze: RM100.00 + vouchers worth RM1,000.00
Additionally, YMCA Ipoh are setting aside 10 to 15 free booths for local groups to promote their wares during the day’s event. Contact Mr. Balan at 010-4647102 for further details.

Following the tournament, the YMCA of Ipoh Archer Range will be open to the public, with operating hours being from 7 am to 11 am, then 4 pm to 7 pm daily.
They offer an extremely competitive price of only RM15 per hour, with unlimited arrows. Unlike some other archery ranges which charge by the arrow, this means that archers can practice their archery to their heart’s content, allowing them to improve quickly and significantly through a meaningful number of repetitions. Recurve bows will be available for renting at just RM5.00 per session with compound bows costing just RM10.00 to rent per session.
V Club Archery plans to hold future tournaments at YMCA Ipoh, which will be sanctioned by the National Archery Association of Malaysia (NAAM).
