More Than 1,190 Students To Benefit From Upgrading Of Computer Labs Through Donation From Ocbc Bank

The programme is part of the Bank’s Education pillar of its #OCBCCares platform

More than 1,190 students and 74 teachers of SJKC Poi Lam will soon benefit from upgraded computer labs through a donation from OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (OCBC Bank) via its Ipoh Branch.

The upgrading includes installation of energy efficient LED lights and repainting of the school’s two computer rooms.

According to SJKC Poi Lam principal, Mr Kong Cheok Yik, the contribution from OCBC Bank came at an ideal time.

“We have been looking at ways to provide a better learning experience for our students. With the donation from OCBC Ipoh branch, students will be able to use the computers and enhance their information technology learning in a more comfortable setting. We are truly grateful to OCBC Bank through its Ipoh branch for this thoughtful contribution and for coming to our aid with their generosity. The Bank’s contribution will undoubtedly have a meaningful impact to us,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of OCBC Bank, its Ipoh Branch, Branch Senior Manager Ms Ivy Choong Miew Hiun said the Bank engages with the communities it serves by assessing their needs and striving to meet them in the spirit of the long-term good of society.

“Our aspiration to be Asia’s leading financial services partner for a sustainable future extends beyond our customers. We want to be the bank that enables the communities around us to realise their aspirations as well.

“OCBC Bank serves the communities in which it operates nationwide through the three pillars of our #OCBCCares platform: education, environment and healthcare. The focus of this Ipoh branch initiative falls under the Education pillar. We trust that upgrading the computer rooms will create an improved learning environment for the students as they hone their digital capabilities.

“Alongside our contribution, my colleagues and I also conducted a financial literacy and online scams awareness session for the students so they could learn about money management from a young age. Such awareness will ensure better financial management for the future and help protect them from cyber scams,” she said.
