IPOH: UNITAR College Ipoh, through its Indian Cultural Society (ICS), organised a Ponggal Festival to celebrate the traditional harvest festival of the Indian community.
The celebration was enlivened by a variety of engaging competitions held to add colour and vibrancy to the event.
Among the highlights were the Ponggal cooking competition and the flower garland–tying contest, both of which attracted enthusiastic participation.


The Ponggal pot decoration competition also received an encouraging response from participants, showcasing creativity and cultural expression.
In addition, kolam decoration, thoranam pinnuthal and poo kathuthal competitions were held to highlight the uniqueness and richness of Indian cultural arts.
The programme was organised with the aim of preserving and sustaining Indian culture and heritage among the younger generation.


According to programme spokesperson Elangkumaran Murugiah, the initiative helps foster unity and appreciation for cultural diversity.
Elangkumaran, who is also the Assistant Manager of UNITAR College Ipoh, serves as the advisor to the ICS club.
Also present at the event was Dr Kogilatha, Manager of the UNITAR College Ipoh Centre.
ICS President Ganeshan and Vice President Vishnu were also in attendance.
