IPOH — A total of 11 Perak Bazar Ramadan RAHMAH locations have been designated across the state this year, offering a variety of food and beverage priced at RM5 and below.
Among the locations are Taman Cempaka in Ipoh and Taman Perpaduan in Tambun, along with several other areas involving 465 traders.
The initiative by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Perak aims to help the public cope with the rising cost of living.
KPDN Perak director Dato’ Kamalludin Ismail said the implementation of the initiative ensures that its objective of assisting the people throughout Ramadan is achieved.
He said the programme seeks to ensure that low-income groups, in particular, can obtain breaking-fast meals at reasonable prices without burdening their daily expenses.
“Through the Payung RAHMAH MADANI programme, the government focuses on access to affordable food, especially during the month of Ramadan, which typically sees an increase in household spending,” he said.
Apart from ensuring that food prices remain affordable, KPDN Perak also emphasises efforts to reduce food wastage through the implementation of the Ihsan Food Bank (i-FB), a transformation of the previous MySaveFood initiative.
The i-FB programme rescues surplus food for distribution to those in need.
The programme is implemented by Pertubuhan Pemuda GEMA Malaysia in collaboration with KPDN Perak and Gerakan Pengguna Siswa (GPS) Perak.
He added that the approach aligns with the government’s aspiration to strengthen the food security network and ensure surplus food benefits those in need.
“Cooperation from all parties, including traders and consumers, is crucial to ensure this initiative delivers maximum impact to the people,” he said.
